Attorney General James Sues World's Largest Beef Producer for Misrepresenting Environmental Impact of Their Products
"JBS has driven more than 2.4 million acres of Amazon deforestation, has poured record methane pollution into the atmosphere, and has a total climate footprint estimated to exceed the entire country of Spain," said Glenn Hurowitz, CEO at Mighty Earth. "Although the company has pledged to be 'Net Zero' by 2040, it has excluded from its calculation sources of pollution that represent more than 90 percent of its footprint and has not offered a credible plan to improve its performance.

"Probably why I had ZERO polyps at my one and only colonoscopy."
"Probably"?
And your evidence for writing that is...? Or, is it just conjecture?
People make all kinds of claims, conclusions and judgements - but that doesn't make it true.
I have beef steaks at least twice a month (flat iron, ribeye, tenderloin, etc.). No polyps here.
Anyway, get another colonoscopy as advised by your doctor, and get back to us with the results.

I put up the evidence but it was taken down, probably by Rod. Do a PUBMED search and evidence for higher incidence of colon and rectal polyps will come up in a search. Couldn't be easier. Just search meat colon polyps.

I have been a carnivore my whole life and I also had ZERO polyps in my one and only colonoscopy after I retired.
And I love eating animal flesh. I even kill and butcher the animals to eat them, medium rare.
You're not a carnivore, humans are omnivores. :)

Thanks, you are correct!
Global warming has its upside (which certain demographics don't like to talk about). I've seen avocados in the grocery store, grown in Canada. That's a good thing. Someday, maybe my grandchildren (if there ever are any) will be able to visit Wisconsin in the winter, and not need long underwear (sorry for you folks in the long underwear biz).
Aside, I wonder why "climate change migrants" from Central America and even northern South America don't migrate to Argentina or Chile, or Uraguay? It'd be a lot easier - fewer border crossings, shorter trip, same basic language, ...). (Next time I say "let's go to Bolivia, let's GO to Bolivia.")
Anyway...
The greening of more northern and southern latitudes might offset the loss of Amazon rainforest acreage. Heck, there's even new plant growth in Greenland.
Question: How many acres of greenery have been turned into cement and buildings, just in the past 50 years or so? How many?

We are inclusive and diverse, but dissent will not be tolerated.
it's such a shameful thing to use "global warming" for political purposes (as in votes), and not in a full scientific context as in "climate change and why".
And why not speak like a true scientist with believable evidence and show exactly WTF is happening - "I Speak the truth and here it is" and "No lies or exaggerations". There are so many factors it can make the head spin coming from many whirling dervish types. They talk such a very good game and it's making my head spin, so it must be true.
There's nothing quite as effective as scaring the voting sheeple with what could be such alarming crystal ball news. All for the sake of more votes and power.
I'm not on it particularly, but I am concerned because I do visit Mexico and some Central American countries.
They appear to be ALL affected severely with drought caused by climate change.
The problem with the Amazon, that we probably know for certain, is that climate change and land use change are happening simultaneously to the complete detriment of the Amazon.
So, the migrant stream will not let up, except that the US and Canada are also experiencing their version of climate change crises.

...agricultural commodities pricing is controlled/manipulated by a handful of large multinational producers/processors--much like the oil/gas industry. You'll pay more or less when they decide to adjust pricing, or when some catastrophic event forces their hand.
As for "green" promises/objectives/mandates? Firstly, they are most frequently "pie in the sky" BS with no means of enforcement or even expected (realistic) attainability. Secondly, most people don't give a rat's-ass where their groceries come from--just the price at the check-out counter.
Lastly, (and I've said this a thousand times), global-warming/global climate-change is a GLOBAL issue. Going "green" is expensive, and the US, EU, and Scandanavian countries can't "fix" the global issue--not when developing or third-world countries continue to contribute to and expand their environmental damage footprint.

I have not eaten beef in over 30 years. Fish and chicken are all I need for meats.
I have heard for some parts of the country it's going to be a big hatch of the 17yr Cicada. I think they would add a great crunch to any vegan meal.
I buy all of my meat at a local meat shop. They have 3000 head of Angus and Akaushi cattle and don't use any hormones, steroid or any other bad stuff. They butcher, quarter and hang and Ave for 30 days before processing for sale. They also have chickens and hogs. All is a around the same price as WM and much much better. They run some fantastic sales too like $1.99lb 80/20 ground chuck.
...I buy most of my meat from local vendors/farmers where there is stuff in the display case, and the rest of the "inventory" is either in the smokehouse, or standing out back in the pastures/pens. Fresh?--point to the one that you want and wait 24 hrs (or less, depending upon what it is), and come back and get it. Whole or sides of beef are generally aged appropriately, so it might be awhile, but you'll get the one that you hand-picked.

As a kid, a roast chicken was a real treat for a Sunday night dinner. Now you can but a whole chicken for $5.
And premium whole cuts of beef - Really only when out at a fancy place - which was maybe 10 times a year. The rest of the time was roast beef, mince, stews, sausages, about 25% meat and all the rest veggies.Meat is the least efficient and most expensive way to get the nutrients we need. Actually, the higher meat content in our diets is detrimental to our health.
We are doing it wrong.

I think that humans have always survived on whatever they could get their hands on.Some faced starvation on a fairly regular basis so "survival" could mean eating nothing but red meat for long periods of time at a stretch, while at other times it might mean eating only plants and going without much meat at all. Eating a lot of uncooked meat (canines and other scavenging animals) meant that parasitic diseases like trichinosis were not uncommon.
Some Native Americans (notably, the "Comanche") hated the taste of fish and would only eat it if they were on the point of starvation, even when fish was plentiful and readily available. The Native American tribes that lived on "the great plains" were probably some of the most dedicated red meat eaters ever, because of the abundance and the sizes of warm-blooded animals there. But Native Americans generally stayed out of the great plains areas until after the introduction of the horse, after the Spaniards arrived.
The great plains were probably considered too dangerous at first, because of the abundance of large animals and because of the many unpredictable weather events there. After the horse arrived, they were able to "master" the great plains in relative safety. The supply of huge "red meat" animals must have seemed endless, at first.
But it should be remembered that the meat "the ancients" ate was of the "open range" type, now considered to be much healthier and less harmful than the grain fed stuff from feed lots that is popular today. When concentrated sugars are introduced into the diet, red meat-eating becomes less of a healthy thing to do. Primitive people did not eat honey very often and the fruits and berries they found were usually tart and not very sweet at all. Diseases and/or conditions that we associate with red meat eating probably have something to do with how (and where) the red meat is raised and/or when alcohol and refined sugars are (too often) eaten along with it.

It was interesting watching one of the Alone series - which was located at Great Slave Lake in Canada, in winter.
One competitor shot a moose and thought he was made for the winter. He had hundreds of lb of meat.
But no matter how much he ate, he kept losing weight and he got so thin that he failed a medical and got checked out of the game. This experience equates somewhat to the old days when everything was lean and people actively looked for fat and relished it because fat was hard to get.
Today, if that was a ""feedlot grain fed"" moose , his cholesterol would have gone ballistic and he might have been checked out due to weight gain ;-)

Yup. That's why, in general, people who want to lose weight should eat more protein and less carbs. Carbs are great for energy, but the problem is that a lot of people who eat a lot of carbs don't use the energy they contain, and so the body stores it as fat. As I always say, 'use it or store it'. Protein, on the other hand, contains less calories and takes longer to digest. This makes a person feel 'full' for a longer time, and contributes to eating less. Hence, weight loss - the body burns its stored fat, and then begins to cannibalize itself - using its own muscle mass to provide energy.
Disclaimer: This isn't an exhaustive dissection of the topic, nor is it intended to be medical advice. Check with your doctor before making any significant changes to your diet. People with certain medical conditions may require different diets. It might not be good to go onto a high protein/low carb diet if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are nursing. Do not operate heavy machinery if you feel dizzy or light-headed. Ask your doctor if lowering your carbohydrate intake will, or may, result in serious side effects, such as excessive weight loss while participating in a survival game in Canada in winter. Etc., etc., etc.

You know that the average life expectancy of American men has been reducing for the last 10 years or so right?
From wiki -
The United States' high obesity rate is a major contributor to its relatively lower life expectancy in comparison with other high-income countries.[34] In the US, about 20% of cancer deaths in women and 14% of those in men are due to obesity.[35] It has been suggested that obesity may lead to a halt in the rise in life expectancy observed in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries.[36][37] In the event that obesity continues to grow in newer generations, a decrease in well-being and life span in the future generations may continue to degenerate.

:) I had to tweak you on the Wiki thing - CfL tells us that it's not a reliable source. "The grayzone", in his view, is more reliable.Anyway, regarding U.S. obesity: There are a lot of healthy, fit, Americans, and we eat beef regularly. As with anything, moderation is key. I think if you look into the data a little further, you will find that the problem with obesity is not necessarily consumption of beef, but rather, excessive consumption of carbohydrates and sugar - snack foods, bread, alcohol, candy, ice cream, pasta, cookies, cake, etc.

there are some smoking cattle in the Texas Panhandle right now. I heard yesterday that 85% of the cattle in Texas are in the Panhandle. I grew up about 40 miles from there and worked in the Panhandle(s) on pipeline crews in the summers. It's the pits, pretty much, although there is a lake now. Amarillo was the closest 'big city'. I have a bunch of petrified wood that came from the burn zone. Fortunately, most of the cattle in the area are in feedlots and probably got protection. But there may be some spike in beef prices from the wildfires.
But as to the original story, I'm all for kicking ass on people misrepresenting environmental claims. I shop that way and I don't have time to source check everything I buy. ('Greenwashing' is almost as bad for the same reason.) So if a company has to charge a few cents per steak more for lying and that puts them in a slight competitive disadvantage in the market, good.
Greenwashing or not. And like I said below, if beef prices are high it's probably because only 4 multinational corporations control 85% of beef production. We're paying for oligopoly.

James ran on the sole purpose of prosecuting DJT, shouting from bullhorns. The judge valued Mar-A-Lago at $17 million which is rediculous. Hey, it's Animal house double secret probation haha as applied to election interference.
Since they have crossed the normal legal threshold where the fine is now unrelated to damages or complaints and the banks were happy to deal with him, they ought to figure out how much he is worth and just charge him with that..... Not sure if anything short of skin failure will stop him from running, hope he has lots of security, the status quo folks on both sides really don't want him around.
...And (if the legality is upheld) having a new found legal path to "gold", NY and other cities can now go after every other realtor for the same thing and banks too for not stopping it and worse yet punish them for being eager to deal with him.
The on going huge fines against the banks and real-estate biz could be a new way to support the city for a little while and making ends meet something for the future to deal with..
This is the exact same "path to gold" used to reclaim money defrauded and stolen from trump university dupes. Like it or not the law in NY says thou shalt not lie, cheat and steal. If you find that so egregious, then do not do business in New York.
The fact that legally this was a unique application of a law where there are no similar examples, where no one defaulted on a loan, everyone was paid back in full and the lenders did their own evaluations that they based their decisions on, such a huge fine does appear to be "special treatment".
Special treatment from a person who ran on going after and sinking the Orange Devil (aren't they supposed to be or at least appear to be unbiased?).
Hopefully they will apply this level of scrutiny and fines to all from now on, that is exactly what the city needs.
I would have no problem if they applied the laws equally to all or at least appeared to, but instead it depends even more now who you are, cutting both ways.
This constant Lawfare, hate and the demagoguery in the left's media and adherents is one of the main things that shouts this is political and this is the guy.
Think about it, how many things has the left accused him with since he announced he was running the first time?
The Rachael Maddcow hysterical approach of everything he does is the end of the world is simply numbing after a enough years, some folks remember the boy who cried wolf. That constant "emotion setting on 10", used to be entertaining.
Eventually they might take him down, i bet they do one way or another but if they do, that is the new political normal. Or maybe not, if another old style career politician took over, there would be no threat to the Washington Way where everyone who matters seems to do very well.
A guy who doesn't need the money or connections to be elected and worse threatens the way things are on top, is worth blocking the democratic process to "preserve democracy", inspiring enough for UN-elected officials to decide he can't run in their state because of something he was neither charged with or convicted of.
Tell me this isn't political haha
The fact that it's an outgrowth of a previous CRIMINAL case involving him makes it somehow politically motivated is complete nonsense.
Not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of public record. You can read the details for yourself anywhere on line. He's got about 20 days to come up with $454 million or James is going to seize property.
He lied about the value of his properties in order to borrow money he didn't have. That's fraud, no matter who does it. You lie about your income on a mortgage application, there's a word for that (fraud). Why should there be a set of rules for you and me, but no rules for the wealthy and powerful?
The judge found him guilty because his attorneys asked to be tried by a judge instead of a jury.
He appealed but he still has to come up with $454 million in cash or bonds sometime over the next couple weeks or Trump Towers could belong to the taxpayers of NYC. Again, matter of public record.
The criminal fraud trial opens in a couple of weeks. He's already an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Michael Cohen case (again, a matter of public record). A guilty verdict in that case could result in jail time.
You think he's innocent, but the law disagrees.

It's all BS. He went to get a loan and stated what he felt his collateral was worth X amount of money. The bank checked out his property to see what they felt it was worth, then agreed on a loan and gave him the money. The loan was paid off to the bank including interest and both parties were happy. A person comes along, not having anything to do with the transaction and decides he estimated his property too high and prosecutes him using a Liberal Trump hating judge and fine him $354M. The DA doesn't have to be impartial.
The defendant requested a non-jury trial, the DA can't demand one. The defendant's attorneys didn't think they had a chance in hell of making a case in front of a jury.
The defendant's attorneys didn't appeal the verdict, only the amount of the penalty.
You know, you, me, and a hell of a lot of other people would love to shake up the Federal government and make it more responsive to us instead constantly following the money.

While I don't doubt that Trump lied insofar as exaggerating the value of his assets, that fact misses the larger point. To wit: It's the responsibility of the lender to roll up his sleeves and perform the necessary due diligence insofar as discovering if the borrower's stated asset value is "accurate*. Only a moron would accept Trump's claim at face value.
James isn't suing to stop beef production, she's just trying to force JBS to quit with the false advertising. Something the FTC would do if it had any power left.
JBS will settle, pay a chump change fine, agree not to lie to its customers anymore (but keep doing it anyway because that's how multinational corporations roll).
If beef prices are high, if JBS uses the lawsuit as an excuse and beef prices go up across the board it's mainly because 85% of beef production in the US is controlled by just 4 companies.
