I have not eaten beef in over 30 years. Fish and chicken are all I need for meats.
I have heard for some parts of the country it's going to be a big hatch of the 17yr Cicada. I think they would add a great crunch to any vegan meal.
I buy all of my meat at a local meat shop. They have 3000 head of Angus and Akaushi cattle and don't use any hormones, steroid or any other bad stuff. They butcher, quarter and hang and Ave for 30 days before processing for sale. They also have chickens and hogs. All is a around the same price as WM and much much better. They run some fantastic sales too like $1.99lb 80/20 ground chuck.
...I buy most of my meat from local vendors/farmers where there is stuff in the display case, and the rest of the "inventory" is either in the smokehouse, or standing out back in the pastures/pens. Fresh?--point to the one that you want and wait 24 hrs (or less, depending upon what it is), and come back and get it. Whole or sides of beef are generally aged appropriately, so it might be awhile, but you'll get the one that you hand-picked.
"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
I get organic chicken at the store for $8 lb, that's about it for now.
Fish and poultry can be fed with Black Soldier Fly Larvae.
You can save the planet more if you swallow the larvae yourself instead of raising something that breaths.

Instead of swallowing the larvae we have the larvae swallow you. The sooner the better.
I miss pictureguy.
It's bizarre what everybody forgets.
As a kid, a roast chicken was a real treat for a Sunday night dinner. Now you can but a whole chicken for $5.
And premium whole cuts of beef - Really only when out at a fancy place - which was maybe 10 times a year. The rest of the time was roast beef, mince, stews, sausages, about 25% meat and all the rest veggies.Meat is the least efficient and most expensive way to get the nutrients we need. Actually, the higher meat content in our diets is detrimental to our health.
We are doing it wrong.

I think that humans have always survived on whatever they could get their hands on.Some faced starvation on a fairly regular basis so "survival" could mean eating nothing but red meat for long periods of time at a stretch, while at other times it might mean eating only plants and going without much meat at all. Eating a lot of uncooked meat (canines and other scavenging animals) meant that parasitic diseases like trichinosis were not uncommon.
Some Native Americans (notably, the "Comanche") hated the taste of fish and would only eat it if they were on the point of starvation, even when fish was plentiful and readily available. The Native American tribes that lived on "the great plains" were probably some of the most dedicated red meat eaters ever, because of the abundance and the sizes of warm-blooded animals there. But Native Americans generally stayed out of the great plains areas until after the introduction of the horse, after the Spaniards arrived.
The great plains were probably considered too dangerous at first, because of the abundance of large animals and because of the many unpredictable weather events there. After the horse arrived, they were able to "master" the great plains in relative safety. The supply of huge "red meat" animals must have seemed endless, at first.
But it should be remembered that the meat "the ancients" ate was of the "open range" type, now considered to be much healthier and less harmful than the grain fed stuff from feed lots that is popular today. When concentrated sugars are introduced into the diet, red meat-eating becomes less of a healthy thing to do. Primitive people did not eat honey very often and the fruits and berries they found were usually tart and not very sweet at all. Diseases and/or conditions that we associate with red meat eating probably have something to do with how (and where) the red meat is raised and/or when alcohol and refined sugars are (too often) eaten along with it.

It was interesting watching one of the Alone series - which was located at Great Slave Lake in Canada, in winter.
One competitor shot a moose and thought he was made for the winter. He had hundreds of lb of meat.
But no matter how much he ate, he kept losing weight and he got so thin that he failed a medical and got checked out of the game. This experience equates somewhat to the old days when everything was lean and people actively looked for fat and relished it because fat was hard to get.
Today, if that was a ""feedlot grain fed"" moose , his cholesterol would have gone ballistic and he might have been checked out due to weight gain ;-)

Yup. That's why, in general, people who want to lose weight should eat more protein and less carbs. Carbs are great for energy, but the problem is that a lot of people who eat a lot of carbs don't use the energy they contain, and so the body stores it as fat. As I always say, 'use it or store it'. Protein, on the other hand, contains less calories and takes longer to digest. This makes a person feel 'full' for a longer time, and contributes to eating less. Hence, weight loss - the body burns its stored fat, and then begins to cannibalize itself - using its own muscle mass to provide energy.
Disclaimer: This isn't an exhaustive dissection of the topic, nor is it intended to be medical advice. Check with your doctor before making any significant changes to your diet. People with certain medical conditions may require different diets. It might not be good to go onto a high protein/low carb diet if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are nursing. Do not operate heavy machinery if you feel dizzy or light-headed. Ask your doctor if lowering your carbohydrate intake will, or may, result in serious side effects, such as excessive weight loss while participating in a survival game in Canada in winter. Etc., etc., etc.

The brain—unlike any other part of the body—runs exclusively on the sugar glucose, and strenuous cognitive activities require more glucose than simple ones, says McNay, who has studied how the brain uses energy to perform work.

And my grandparents walked 3 miles in the snow to get to school. (And they liked it. ;) )
Air conditioned movie theaters were a big thing in the 1950s and '60s.
Before plastics, practically everything was made of metal or wood, or glass.
For thousands of years, people survived and thrived without electricity.
For thousands of years, common diseases could not be treated, because of the lack of biological understanding.
For thousands of years, people thought that the Earth was the center of the universe.
For thousands of years, Man had no way to farm on a large scale.
For thousands of years, animals for food were not domesticated.

Humans are omnivores, meaning that we eat all types of foods. We eat animal, plant, fish, and fowl. This has contributed to our ability to thrive and survive in all types of climates and weather conditions.
Thank goodness that, now, we can have chicken or hamburgers or steak whenever we want to, in a home with electric lights, HVAC, rapid personal transportation, etc. Who's got a problem with that?

You know that the average life expectancy of American men has been reducing for the last 10 years or so right?
From wiki -
The United States' high obesity rate is a major contributor to its relatively lower life expectancy in comparison with other high-income countries.[34] In the US, about 20% of cancer deaths in women and 14% of those in men are due to obesity.[35] It has been suggested that obesity may lead to a halt in the rise in life expectancy observed in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries.[36][37] In the event that obesity continues to grow in newer generations, a decrease in well-being and life span in the future generations may continue to degenerate.

Ha! You know that Wikipedia is unreliable, right? Just ask Chris from Lafayette. He knows. He even cited a study by some Colorado university guys which proves it. ;)
Anyway... Humans are omnivores. But eating too much red meat isn't good for the human. Any doctor can tell you that.
In any case, I'd rather have the lifestyle and available food options that I have now, than what the townsfolk had available back in the days of old.

You can look at hundreds of sources on this - they will all say the same thing, that eating too much meat is bad for you - and bad for the planet.
This is not a matter of opinion, but matter of fact.
Of course it's nice to have the choice of lifestyle and food options we have now, except that those lifestyle and food choices are killing us. I know sounds kinda lame, kinda alarmist, but it's true.

:) I had to tweak you on the Wiki thing - CfL tells us that it's not a reliable source. "The grayzone", in his view, is more reliable.Anyway, regarding U.S. obesity: There are a lot of healthy, fit, Americans, and we eat beef regularly. As with anything, moderation is key. I think if you look into the data a little further, you will find that the problem with obesity is not necessarily consumption of beef, but rather, excessive consumption of carbohydrates and sugar - snack foods, bread, alcohol, candy, ice cream, pasta, cookies, cake, etc.
In any case, the New York Democrat is just on another persecution crusade. Such people shouldn't have ever been elected.
The 2.4 million acres cited, in South America, is less than the size of Sydney, AU. Yet somehow, it has become a focus of a New York political adversary.

I agree with what you are saying, but I know from experience that the one thing you can do to *really* piss people off is tell them that humans should be eating less meat, and that factory farming is really, really bad for the planet.
Facts be damned, they want their meat.
We are all gonna die anyway, even if you have never tasted red meat. Might as well go enjoying a life eating food you enjoy. I like my steaks medium rare along with a nice salad.
I had a stunning 2" thick grass fed Angus eye fillet the other week.
Amazing!
But, we have to cut down - specially grain fed.

So, given the facts, what is the motivation of the NY AG to go after this company? Politics, and money.
(I used to grill 1-3/4" to 2" ribeyes, but, "I've cut back" to 1-1/4" steaks. (Doing my part, again, to save the planet.)

The reason that the NYAG is suing JBS is in the linked article in the first post.
Did you read it?
Saving the world.
How much oxygen does 2.4 million acres of Amazon forest generate for us?
Or ..... used to generate for us?
And don't even start on the pollution that JBS causes that according to NY AG they are not having any plans to ameliorate or deal with.
