James is also threatening legal action against a NY county (Nassau) for not allowing trans biologic males to compete in Womens sports.
Who votes for these people?
Follow Ups:
about trans-biologic women. I really think that while I believe they should be able to participate in team events, I still think that only real biologic women should be able to win in the events. As liberal as I am, that's what I think. Also, I don't care what the fuck bathroom they use. If they don't get a hard-on over seeing a woman, I think they can use any bathroom they prefer to use :-)
...you're a pervert anyway.
The sports thing? That people can get their knickers in a twist because some transgendered guy somewhere, might participate in girl's soccer is just...really? What kind of a snowflake lets something like that bother him?

Do you not believe biologic males have an advantage over females in most sports? I'm not talking about checkers!
I think my sister was a better baseball player than most of the male kids who played Little League in my area.
But so what? It's just sports.
You play a team game, sooner or later you're going to run up against another team that's bigger, faster, stronger. That's just how it goes. Why should I or anybody else care if the bigger, stronger kid is a transgendered boy or a bigger stronger girl?
By the way, probably half of the girls in my high school could have easily kicked my ass.

some of the people that are right here on AA central
Why it's even an issue is beyond me. It's just sports, it's irrelevant.
I don't live in New York, so I don't know who I'd vote for, but James just successfully concluded a major fraud case of note. I'd be inclined to vote for her on that basis.

The girls on the teams care. And some of us care about them.
Trans people need their own teams.
only in the USA can something be so stupid.
I don't know. If they really want to play sports they will figure it out. What they are playing now is not sport.
It's one of those upside down things (if you'll put up with this you'll put up with anything). Clown World.
What crime did he commit? Who was the victim in this crime? Why did the judge find him guilty 2 weeks before the trial even began and then went straight to sentencing? James ran on the sole purpose of prosecuting DJT, shouting from bullhorns. The judge valued Mar-A-Lago at $17 million which is rediculous. The banks said they were happy with the loans, so again, who is the victim here? The banks were fully paid back with interest. DJT is the victim and everyone can see it except those who have Trump Derangement Syndrome. Apparently that is YOU which actually surprises me.
as long as you want another 2009 financial crisis.its also fine for everyone to do it, as long as no unforeseen event causes everyone up and down the investment chain to mark to market.
right?
of course it is.

Hey, it's Animal house double secret probation haha as applied to election interference.
Since they have crossed the normal legal threshold where the fine is now unrelated to damages or complaints and the banks were happy to deal with him, they ought to figure out how much he is worth and just charge him with that..... Not sure if anything short of skin failure will stop him from running, hope he has lots of security, the status quo folks on both sides really don't want him around.
...And (if the legality is upheld) having a new found legal path to "gold", NY and other cities can now go after every other realtor for the same thing and banks too for not stopping it and worse yet punish them for being eager to deal with him.
The on going huge fines against the banks and real-estate biz could be a new way to support the city for a little while and making ends meet something for the future to deal with..
This is the exact same "path to gold" used to reclaim money defrauded and stolen from trump university dupes. Like it or not the law in NY says thou shalt not lie, cheat and steal. If you find that so egregious, then do not do business in New York.
The fact that legally this was a unique application of a law where there are no similar examples, where no one defaulted on a loan, everyone was paid back in full and the lenders did their own evaluations that they based their decisions on, such a huge fine does appear to be "special treatment".
Special treatment from a person who ran on going after and sinking the Orange Devil (aren't they supposed to be or at least appear to be unbiased?).
Hopefully they will apply this level of scrutiny and fines to all from now on, that is exactly what the city needs.
I would have no problem if they applied the laws equally to all or at least appeared to, but instead it depends even more now who you are, cutting both ways.
This constant Lawfare, hate and the demagoguery in the left's media and adherents is one of the main things that shouts this is political and this is the guy.
Think about it, how many things has the left accused him with since he announced he was running the first time?
The Rachael Maddcow hysterical approach of everything he does is the end of the world is simply numbing after a enough years, some folks remember the boy who cried wolf. That constant "emotion setting on 10", used to be entertaining.
Eventually they might take him down, i bet they do one way or another but if they do, that is the new political normal. Or maybe not, if another old style career politician took over, there would be no threat to the Washington Way where everyone who matters seems to do very well.
A guy who doesn't need the money or connections to be elected and worse threatens the way things are on top, is worth blocking the democratic process to "preserve democracy", inspiring enough for UN-elected officials to decide he can't run in their state because of something he was neither charged with or convicted of.
Tell me this isn't political haha
The fact that it's an outgrowth of a previous CRIMINAL case involving him makes it somehow politically motivated is complete nonsense.
Not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of public record. You can read the details for yourself anywhere on line. He's got about 20 days to come up with $454 million or James is going to seize property.
He lied about the value of his properties in order to borrow money he didn't have. That's fraud, no matter who does it. You lie about your income on a mortgage application, there's a word for that (fraud). Why should there be a set of rules for you and me, but no rules for the wealthy and powerful?
The judge found him guilty because his attorneys asked to be tried by a judge instead of a jury.
He appealed but he still has to come up with $454 million in cash or bonds sometime over the next couple weeks or Trump Towers could belong to the taxpayers of NYC. Again, matter of public record.
The criminal fraud trial opens in a couple of weeks. He's already an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Michael Cohen case (again, a matter of public record). A guilty verdict in that case could result in jail time.
You think he's innocent, but the law disagrees.
And by the way, he didn't appeal the conviction, just the size of the penalty.

just because the victim is spread out to the rest of us. Our entire financial system rests upon CONFIDENCE in the system, which is not to be taken lightly.

And I think we should put fraudsters, cheats, etc, in the slammer with the worst of the prison population. No Club Fed.
I'm surprised, or maybe I shouldn't be, that so many law-and-order-lock-'em-up-and-toss-the-key types are falling all over themselves excusing the behavior of certain people.

So Ghost, what property did Trump overvalue and how much did he say it was worth? How much did the bank say it was worth? Was the property Mar a lago? Trump Tower? I'm just curious how corrupt Trump was.
got news for all, they are pretty much all guilty
The Love or affectation of money you know...or should know. If not, study up om the human condition

Former law and order types. Now, not so much. F the law and F the Constitution. Up is down and down is up.
So let us stop talkin' falsely now, the hour's getting late --
Robert Allen Zimmerman
It's all BS. He went to get a loan and stated what he felt his collateral was worth X amount of money. The bank checked out his property to see what they felt it was worth, then agreed on a loan and gave him the money. The loan was paid off to the bank including interest and both parties were happy. A person comes along, not having anything to do with the transaction and decides he estimated his property too high and prosecutes him using a Liberal Trump hating judge and fine him $354M. It's all BS.
Tell me where the fraud is? This type of loan goes on between the borrower and lender everyday and it is how business is done. DUDE! Lmao
One set was actual p/l
Second was for banks and insurance ,banks are always happy with the extra value on their books showing large assets for shareholders
Third was for state and local taxes, which was completely undervalued
So he owes a lot of unpaid taxes for the last 20 years
This was also a misuse use of the 1031 exchange law
He's the biggest Karen with bad makeup crying all the time.
Silence is golden duct tape is silver
...if they're getting their news on the civil fraud conviction from, ah, certain sources, they don't know about any of this.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
But that's not reality according to New York's laws. He had his day in court and lost. Guilty as charged.
For the record, I don't disagree that people--too many people, particularly people with a lot of money--commit civil fraud all the time. But that isn't any excuse. If I got pulled over for speeding and told the cop "but everybody does it" how far do you think that would get me?
Dunno about you, but I believe in law and order, regardless of who, and regardless of how much money they have.
By the way Judge Engeron was elected, not appointed. You don't know what his political beliefs are, neither does anybody else except the judge himself. Anybody says anything different, it's pure speculation.

Let's see what happens when it's all over. It's election interference, no matter how it's portrayed. But that's ok because a lot of people see it for wHat it is. Did you see the video where Laticia James told other businessmen in NY they didn't have to worry because they weren't Trump? That says a lot.
The DA doesn't have to be impartial.
The defendant requested a non-jury trial, the DA can't demand one. The defendant's attorneys didn't think they had a chance in hell of making a case in front of a jury.
The defendant's attorneys didn't appeal the verdict, only the amount of the penalty.
You know, you, me, and a hell of a lot of other people would love to shake up the Federal government and make it more responsive to us instead constantly following the money.
But I'm not going to trust a guy who stiffs his own attorneys, and who's name is becoming synonymous with "fraud" (see: his foundation, his university, unpaid taxes, unpaid loans, unpaid mom and pop contractors, fake electors, and the upcoming criminal fraud case).
Your methods may vary. But, so what? You're OK in my book. I don't care who you vote for.
And frankly, I don't even care all that much if your guy wins in November because replacing one old white guy with another old white guy isn't going to budge the needle.
And your guy did some good things during his 4 years. Operation Warp Speed. The Covid stimulus payments. He wanted to go a lot further than Congress when it came to the stimmies.

While I don't doubt that Trump lied insofar as exaggerating the value of his assets, that fact misses the larger point. To wit: It's the responsibility of the lender to roll up his sleeves and perform the necessary due diligence insofar as discovering if the borrower's stated asset value is "accurate*. Only a moron would accept Trump's claim at face value.
