Everything really depends on what you like, your hearing, etc, etc.
I personally think SET is stunning, given a good implementation. Trading off between a low power SET and a higher power push-pull would be a challenge. I think a number of inmates divide the amplification role between SET for the high end and non-SET for the bass (to get the needed power).
To my mind, adding complications to the system reduces musical quality, across sources, amplification, or the speakers. The purity of simplicity is a real thing you can hear (or more often not hear).
It is all about what floats your boat, and how much time and money you want to invest. Personally I like well designed vintage equipment, which is often more hard to find than anything else. But it is the knowing what you want to accomplish and what is going to actually get you there (or closer).
