I agree with the need for more power for successful bass. I am driving a pair of Altec 604 with an 805 set. Very satisfying bass, and performance in general.
Maybe the best way to look at it is not so much volume, but rather the grip of the amp on the bass. Which is going to be easier for the speaker to shake off, the grip of a Chihuahua or a Pit Bull?
