Um, where else do you propose to put the plate current, Dan?

Of course, in a modern tube design, the plate current in a bifilar output transformer is cancelled by the plate current in the other half of the winding to the other output tube.

That is, of course, unless you happen to do single-ended. Now I have to admit that I've never found them very interesting, I learned to recognize the assymetric sound very early on and I never liked it.
