Wouldn't you agree that with more bits, quantization distortion reduces?I heard a demonstration some years back of the effect of dither- an 8 bit recording and playback, undithered was horrible, buzzy and distorted. Dither added, and the music sounded fine, albeit with a highish level of hiss (though no worse than some mediocre phono stages). No buzzy distortion. Spooky magic.
