That's a red herring

That doesn't explain the shortcomings of earlier digital recordings.

I've mentioned this in a reply to you before, but A/D (and D/A) converters have seen *tremendous* sonic improvements since their introduction. Why is that? Could it be because there were fundamental problems with the technology?

There's a good reason why older digital equipment, while still in perfect working order, isn't highly regarded. I got rid of my old A/D converter in a flash when I heard what a modern (and cheaper) unit was capable of.
