in so much the cables than the formats. I noticed many are using cheap generic usb cables and dissing the sound blaming it on the usb format.
I also haven't seen that many Firewire implementations on the higher end dacs, always usb.
My Esoteric D-07 sounds wonderful from both Spdif and USB. I'm using Ortofon Coaxial and USB cables.
Get the best USB cable you can afford , try to compare to those out of budget and then judge the format :-) USB cables, like any other cables, follow the same rules of synergy and sonic signature. Decent sounding USB cables start from $100 to $1200 !!
