It’s nice too read your journey and experience is completely in line with mine.
Already for some years TC Elctronic and Focusrite are leading the pack in the PC audio interfaces up too 500 euro’s.
Although the interface function is only one part of DAC, I think it’s no coincidence that they both use a firewire connection based on the TC Applied Technologies patented DICE/JetPLL technology (also used by Weiss)
Up too 1.000 euro’s I think the Yamaha Steinberg Mr816x is class leading and a hard too beat contender.
Again also this unit uses a firewire connection.
So to catch up the USB guys still have a lot of home work too do IMHO.
Although I must confess, the new Apogee Symphony I/O (with USB 2.0) also sounds very, very fine.

I think that’s somewhat overdone. But I get the picture.
I completely agree: at given price, the TC Twin Impact sounds truly superb.
