I agree with Tony.

It is a consistent "house sound" developed over time, and a series of products. NAD's philosophy since the late 70s, early 80s has been to reject cosmetic flash for SQ. Especially, - during the time of tape hiss, the introduction of Dolby, cassette tapes, etc. Upper treble, sibilance & noise was rampant. Especially for classical fans, who (somewhat), don't like scratchy violins, sizzly cymbals, tambourines, etc. They're just not used to hearing them, - especially back then. Recessed treble, and warmish character was a breath of fresh air... IMO, - (although not right for me), - I recognize that it is good stuff, a good philosophy, and very good mid-fi level gear for the right person.

That being said, enhancing the artistic experience is very individual, and very opinionated. I believe that one should be very honest and opinionated, as no one opinion is any better than another. Just because it's better for you, doesn't mean that it's better for the Krell punk rock dude. So yeah, NAD is total shite. :-)
