RE: Observations on NAD's implementation of DLNA, AptX, AirPlay, SPDIF in the D 7050

Sorry for the late reply.

On the current state of DLNA...
I agree with your comments. Most high end manufacturers will probably build their own proprietary protocol unless a streamlined "audiophile approved" standard emerges (the universal plug-n-play nature of DLNA requires too much complexity in design). Maybe CSR will someday offer a DIY DDFA module so that one could incorporate it into a squeeze ecosystem? Or perhaps Swenson and team will someday incorporate a similarly good sounding digital amp circuit into the Community Squeeze Player?

Regarding JRiver, I understand you don't like it, but what I like about MC/JRemote is that this combo does not feel/behave like DLNA at all. It works great, and JRemote is awesome. But I don't have any other SB players in my home systems at this time so I am not wedded to that ecosystem, which would be compelling if I did have one or two SBs in service.

On the topic of using the USB/SPDIF converter as a source...
In case I wasn't clear, I would never use it either! But I did want to properly assess the SQ of the wireless sources. That DLNA stacks up favorably...is a significant outcome.

On the topic of the Gallo Strada Reference IIs...
Yes, I like these. These can be bought for around $1,350 USD for the pair at audiophileliquidatordotnet (new, not open box). I got a new pair from a private party for $1,250. I bought the D7050 for $823 (new) from the same source mentioned above. So I paid just over $2k for this system. I don't think I would spend $2,000 for the speakers. I did not do an exhaustive search because my options were limited regarding size and placement, and this great deal popped up. I did not have a chance to compare them to the KEF LS50, for example. But the KEF's are only 85dB which might be a stretch for the D7050. I did toy with the idea of building the smallish DIY cabs for the Phy-Hp drivers, but these were not going to be inexpensive and probably too big. The Strada's are revealing without being bright, even without the sub; but I will probably add the sub. I've read that the Strada's like power, and 6moons paired them with 100w and 200w amplifiers. Yet, they play plenty loud for me in a room that is probably 17 wide by 12 deep. They do not have the life-like realism of my Tonian Labs speakers (an unfair comparison because not many other speakers do) which, if not constrained to small speakers, are better and available in Greece. But for $2,100 all in, I think I would be hard pressed to build a better "small speaker" system regardless of source material (vinyl, redbook CD, wav, etc.) unless it was all DIY which probably could be done provided I had more free time. Cheers!
