Re: Anybody heard Tenor Audio's 75W OTLs?

hi ralph,

thanks for the detailed analysis of my comments. my methods were as scientific as possible with equipment avalible to me. i did use the same interconnects, speaker cables, power outlets, power cables, amp stands, sources and music. i did not experiment with optimization of either amp with other cables, stands, etc.

i did compare both using my levinson #32 preamp in balanced mode, certainly no slouch as a preamp but possibly not as good with the MA2 as your MP1. after some time on the #32 where i preferred the Tenor i tried the Tenor without the #32 and the differences were greater. when i was at my friends home listening on his wilson maxx's he was using a very good tube preamp, the aesthetix calisto, and the same pattern held. we preferred the Tenor to the MA2s on the calisto, but preferred the Tenor more without the calisto.

no, i have not heard your preamp and have heard it does have a special synergy with your amps.

i would say my sources are quite good quality and not likely causing "problems upstream".

the 6sn7 tubes were NOS Philips, from what i understand good but not the very best NOS tubes.

i would defer to your expierience on the other varibles you bring up such as the effects of power requirements, speaker load and speaker cable. i have had many high quality amps in my room using those cables and those circuts and have never had any problems. but of course, until you experiment with other cables, etc. you would not know what is causing what.

in closeing i would say my comments only pertain my perception of these amps in my setup and any other context is open to interpretation. also that the MA2 MkII.2 is the best amp i have ever listened to except for the Tenor; and i mean that as a compliment.

thanks for making such great products.

regards

mike
