Re: Semantics?

hi lew,

my system for this comparison is as follows; 3 sources, linn cd-12, marantz sa-1, and a basis/graham/koetsu/aesthetix io vinyl front end. i use nordost valhalla balanced interconnects and transparent opus mm speaker cables. my preamp is the levinson #32 but with the Tenor i mostly went direct in and used the integrated mode, although thru the #32 i still preferred the Tenor, just not as much.

the Tenor didn't have the ultimate power to attain the dynamic control of the wilson speakers like the MA2s. the Tenors were fine when played at normal listening levels. but when pushed they got hard on the peaks and went into soft clipping. bass articulation and extension was excellent on the Tenor but short of the weight and percieved control of the MA2s. within it's effective performance envelope the Tenor had all the performance advantages over the MA2s i had mentioned.

i would guess that the M60 atmasphere would have similar dynamic challenges
on the wilson speakers compared to the MA2s.

i understand your reluctance to accept that "the Tenor could audibly equal the MA2s, let alone outperform them, while driving the relatively power hungry wilson speakers". but with the exception of the "dynamics" issue, that was my perception; and it was not a subtle difference.

in many ways i wish i had not responded to Mike P.'s question. i was not looking to upset the applecart here by criticizing the MA2. i was looking from the perspective of a new OTL fan that other OTL fans would want know about the Tenor.

i would ask that you listen and decide for yourself on the Tenor.

regards

mike
