As a Veteran of 1,400 Weddings,2/3 on film, and technical Editor/author of film articles in PPA's Professional Photographer in the 90's, I opened up my All Digital Photo studio in 1999, and wrote the very first article about it in (Y2K) 2000."Saying goodbye to dust and grain forever."
All this after selling 150,000 Kodak dye sublimation prints on Ten $9,000 printers doing Santa Photos at 5 local malls. The tethered to SCSI Kodak cameras that came with no lens and cost $6,000 to $11,000 back then with only 1.5 bad Megapixels! They were only good enough to replace Polaroid.
I did not replace film until, as a Foveon Mentor, got a $50,000 camera system for the studio and a $20,000 Fuji Pictrography Printer (replaced by large format Inkjet within a year). There were NO labs printing digital files then, so I had not choice.
Now we just send picture over the phone while IF, I were to shoot my old 8x10 camera with Ekta of Fuji Chrome, the cost would be $50 per Click of the shutter.
No thank you. As I celebrate my 30th Anniversary of "being Digital" for photography, and my Forty Third anniversary of "CD/no vinyl"
If people want to keep dragging a rock through a deteriorating dusty ditch in a non linear system at 20,000 lbs/square inch pressure through a round Vinyl Floor tile with a small hole in the middle, that's their nostalgic business (I gave away 500 and have 500 left if you want).
Especially those who insist on their amplifier operating at dangerous 350+ volts that have to be stepped down through expensive, heavy transformers to a single digit watts for an 8 ohm load, while the tubes deteriorate and warm up the room, even in the summer!
Like Mr. Joel said: "The good ole days weren't always good, and tomorrow's not as bad as it seems."
So Keep the faith!
