Please help educate a relative novice to horn loudspeakers . . .
The other day I had a chance to audition a large three-way horn speaker system using world-class components throughout and passively crossing over at 1600Hz and 8000Hz. The other components in the sound system were also all top quality, and the listening room itself seemed to be well designed. Initially the listening was truly thrilling, but as the audition went on, I found myself becoming fatigued in a way that I never experience with my own system. The other people visiting the shop with me later confirmed that their sentiments were exactly the same as mine. In the end, we felt a sense of relief when the audition was over.
Does anyone care to venture a guess as to what the likely culprit was? I could provide more details but I was wondering if perhaps there are fairly typical, common explanations for what we experienced.
Thanks!
Chris
