But IME the material used for OB is critical, for final result. Though easily classified as subtle, I still find a night and day difference in the overall musical gestalt. If you have a driver of note/pedigree/proven reputation .... you won't hear its musical heart on open baffle, using mdf. The baffle is (a not minor) part of the the total outputted soundfield. And for my lazy (and cheap) arse, either birch ply or butcher block are requirements to get to musicville (via open baffle). Baffle and driver together, parts of a sytem (sum of the parts/greater than the whole). Bass .... yummy.
