Thank you for your response. Do I understand correctly that the hum was related to the step-up transformer, or did the wiring and solder joints also contributed? I also think each and every solder joint is critical. Maybe one can really do a star grounding and run a wire from the ground bolt near the transformer to the RCA ground lugs. But probably if the manual is properly followed then no problems arise.
