Re: Twist or not

Twisting is, of course, the safest option so long as you are twisting signal pairs and don't end up with something like -12, 0, +12 etc. In that instance, to me, braiding is not a really natural extension.

I personally like to run DC cables, and pure AC cables (ie mains or secondaries), absolutely parallel with each other by lacing them together in looms - also signal pairs in some situations. However, this is not an easy procedure for some - I learnt the technique formally. Looms must be worked out beforehand and differing signal types should not be mixed. Not many people appreciate how close and parallel wires run in a loom, nor how stiff but maliable a loom is it can be permanently positioned further after it is finished etc. without danger of flopping around. They can also sometimes reduce the length of cable significantly in comparison to twisting.

Another thing to bear in mind is cable proximity (i.e. crosstalk). If say, a signal, pure AC, or DC types have to come close to each other for some reason - they should at least cross each other at as close to 90 degress as possible (never parallel). Again, looms can come to the rescue because they can be permanently positioned better in 3D space to be far away from each other.

Now, let's imagine a RF 'wave' cutting into some wires. I would prefer that it cut into ALL my DC wiring at the same time - bearing in mind that they are pretty much purely parallel and so should cancel each other out more often than not.

I do realise, however, that this subject could easily cause all kinds of disagreements - I am not hoping for a debate and will not take part in one - this is just my view and I'm more than happy with the sonic results of the kits that I have built using these techniques.
