RE: Are Bryston power amplifiers 1 or 2 ohm capable

FTC Power Rules and UL/CSA approval regulations require a one hour pre-conditoniong at one-sixth power. For a Class AB amp like a Bryston, its a difficult requirement.

Then they are tested into various loads at full rated power, 20Hz to 20 KHz, at less than rated distortion.

If the amplifier's fuse blows, or the protection circuitry kicks in, then the manufacturer cannot legally mention any power into the load that caused the fault. So, the amp may be capable of 2 ohm operation, especially if not driven to rated power, but Bryston cannot claim to be able to drive a 2 ohm load, even at reduced power.

My experience with Bryston products is they generally can drive 2 ohm loads except when bridged into mono, where the minimum load would then be 4 ohms. YMMV

I think the bigger question is why in the world would you want to drive a 2 ohm load?
