My objective was to blend the virtues of the last two amps used in that system. A $300 NAD 326BEE served well for a while, but alas was somewhat underpowered for really cranking the New Advents out into the drive. It also ran darn HOT! in the summer months living in one of the closets.

About a year and a half ago, I purchased a Crown XLS1500 for the same money which a number of folks have said is pretty decent. At 300 watts per channel, it certainly has enough power and a surprisingly good midrange arguably better than the NAD. Alas, the piper to be paid with it is the top end. With the upper harmonics, it's as if your are watching a bird fly into a glass wall and drop dead. No air or sense of natural extension at the top.

So far, this baby Ncore is meeting those goals, if not exactly being a cool runner. Since it lives in a closet, I've been using a small fan since I've been running it continuously.
