RE: Lil' sucker sure runs toasty!

The 5mm is just the spacing from the pcboard to the bottom plate. The output devices are directly mounted to the bottom plate and not the pcboard.

Yeah, I saw that photo, but it doesn't show the connection the module bottom plate has to the chassis.
Regardless, I would say that chassis is too small for the NC502 module. Not much aluminum, and the gauge looks fairly thin. Your comment about them running toasty proves this out.

That said, I tend to be more conservative than most and have provided a good bit of aluminum real-estate to mount my modules on. They do not run toasty. Whether that will increase longetivity relative to a less conservative approach is unknown.

The Hypex website contains a Thermal Design white paper and spreadsheet to better estimate the dissipation requirements for their modules.
