Me with an Ncore amp - wtf?

About a year and a half ago, I effectively traded a NAD 326BEE for a Crown XLS1500 for the garage system. Paid/sold $300 for each. I conceded that while the Crown runs cooler (system lives in a closet) and has far more power, top end response was clearly compromised. Fair trade for that system.

On ebay, I found a company that makes inexpensive amps using the NC502MP which is a single board stereo Ncore module. Nothing included more than a power switch, balanced inputs and speaker posts. All for under $900 which is experimentation territory for me.

Initial response? Clearly more transparency, expecially at the top than the Crown without sounding bright. Less "fat" in the midbass/lower midrange area. Need more listening time to assess.

I may actually keep the Crown and end up leveraging all my spare stuff - still have a pair of Polk LSi9s that were previously used in the HT until the Acoustat 1+1s replaced them. Definitely more neutral voice and extended on top than the New Advents, but run out of steam below about 70-80 hz. Used powered subs with them in the HT.

Since the Crown has a built in crossover function, I think my DAC will simultaneously drive both balanced and single ended outputs with the Ncore on top feeding the Polks and the Crown low passed (50-60 hz?) to the New Advents. Should be interesting...

Maybe Kuribo will have the last laugh. :)
