I see that the two of us have been cruising the same route when it comes to speaker cables as well! Here's a few observations I made about cables and my mono blocs
* first set of cables I used were one of the better ones that Audioquest sells (might add here as well that they are currently MIA at the house). They were just fine to my ears, but if you know me you also know that I'm somewhat of a "tinkerer"
* Next set was a pair of MIT's (note: all cable lengths are eight feet long unless spec'd). These worked fairly well with my Sonic Frontiers tube amp, but just didn't cut it with the mono's
* actually two pairs of Synergistics cables. One of the pair was bi-wired. Seemed to work best tubes. But the biwired set was a little more open and transparent
* Kimber bi-wires. These were six feet long and used them for several years as I found nothing I liked better.
* Now I'm using an eight foot pair of custom built Gronenbergs that use WBT ends. Seem to have more bass that is also much tighter. Will replace these later in the year with a five foot pair and the same ends.
