However, the apostrophe doesn't always denote possession. This is what people are missing. For example, according to the MLA stylesheet:
Pluralizing Numbers, Letters, and Abbreviations
When making numbers, letters, or abbreviations plural an apostrophe is optional. The MLA Stylesheet recommends that no apostrophe be used.
George thinks the tone produced by 8's on telephones is most pleasing. OR
George thinks the tone produced by 8s on telephones is most pleasing.
George is registered in several SPCA's. OR
George is registered in several SPCAs.

Like about half the posters here, I've chosen to use the apostrophe to form the plural of model designations to avoid ambiguity. That isn't just a theoretical concern, since more than a few model designations end with an "s" -- in fact, I was discussing the Neo8S just a few hours ago on the Planar Circle. But I consider the issue trivial and from my perspective, people can do whatever they want. It just bugs me that some people are claiming that it's in error when it isn't.
