Because "it's" is a contraction of "it is". Yes the posessive form of "it" is "its", but that shoe doesn't fit with nouns, generally."It" is a pronoun.
"MMG" and "SMGa" are nouns, they are names of things. Specifically loudspeakers.
Generally speaking, in English a plural noun only requires an "s."
An apostrophe describes a quality or thing belonging to a noun, as "The MMG's resolution in the middle frequencies was acceptable."
"The MMGs appeared to be cosmetically identical."
You see the difference?
To go off topic, do you think Magnepan WOULD call the new MMGs MMGas?
:-)
