Seems reasonable to moi! :-)) Just like you could position the bass panel X' ft off the front wall to take advantage of the inherent 1/4-wavelength positioning dip, to counter the bass driver resonance peak.

No, of course not - as they are independent. If the speaker is absolutely flat and the room is not, you will hear the combined result of both influences ... which means IMO you will hear the room's peaks & troughs.
