Hey PG,
I wish I would have know about the different grades of wood. I’m hoping my liking of these will be similar to the first time I got to taste a scotch on the rocks. So it goes.
I have made an A/B comparison regarding tweeter vibration. I know a pair of Linaeum’s bolted on to oak hardwood frames are not the perfect comparison but from what I heard, that is the reason why I did the separate bases on my 2.5’s. When I first added these tweeters to my SMGa’s, I mounted them on top of the hardwood frames right above the tweeter section. I did use some sound deadening material as a gasket. I got good results but because of Andy’s trial and errors with his project, I took the Linaeum’s a step further and installed them on their own structure. Yes, there were still mounted on the same base as the SMGa’s, but I heard marked improvement. Directly behind my frames, I mounted a pair of flat 3/4'” pipe flanges and constructed an upside down “U” with PVC pipe that mirrored the perimeter of my hardwood frames. I then filled the PVC with sand and mounted the Linaeum’s to the pipe using conduit hangers. The results were more than settle. When I had the tweeters mounted directly on top of the frames, I could feel vibrations on top of the tweeter. After mounting them on their own structure, vibration could not be detected.
What is your opinion on speaker manufactures such as Wilson, Von Schweikert, Verity, and Aerial building some of their products as two piece designs separating the mid range and tweeters from the woofers?
