Did you chamber or round over the inside edge of the frames, to reduce diffraction? Panels tight enough in the frames?Did you upgrade the crossover/is it broken in yet? Are the wires run properly, not effected by the inductors, etc.? I found that when I simply isolated my temporary crossover board with vibration absorbing balls off the plinth base, the sound smoothed out. When the crossover boxes are done, this should improve even more.
After breaking my speakers/crossover in with the mylar back, I ended up turning them back to forward. Even with the PG crossover, I prefer that.
What toe in are you using? I found that the best for me was almost directly straight at the listening position, aimed slightly behind my head.
Then there's the "system synergy" thing. Using an inexpensive passive pre with short interconnects. I found my silver interconnect (unshielded) analog cables had to be canned, went with Oyaide (shielded) copper for now.
Is the problem 24/7 or intermitted? If the latter, maybe a power or RFI problem? You could try the choke mod if you haven't already.
The resolution of my MMGs went up big time after the mods and doing the above, I could see this being good or bad, depending on other conditions.
