If strident high's are your problem, first look for RF noise. Are you using 10 uH chokes in series with the tweeters? Also as others point out, Duelund resistors make a difference. Even if they don't solve this problem, your speakers will sound better.
I certainly can't explain why the audio gods picked you out to have problems with hardwood frames but have you been doing the proper rituals and burning incense? Perhaps, the frames have focused the high end that was being diffused by the bass vibrations rattling the tweeter, so now the speaker is overly bright. This, as others point out, may need some room correction.
