Since you believe it's OK to jump off a cliff because "everyone" else does, go ahead and jump.Your CATV ground should be bonded to your house ground for safety reasons. It's as simple as that. If you notice, your phone should also be grounded at the same rod outside. This is done for a reason. It is code. It is code for a reason. If the grounds are not the same place, they can have different voltages. Current flows between different voltages. The voltage difference between grounds during a lightning strike can exceed the breakdown voltage of internal wire. Then current will flow between separated ground rods THROUGH the house instead of through the outside dirt. If the two grounds are bonded at the entrance, there would be no voltage difference to cause current to flow inside. The voltage may rise above 0V, but it would be the same for both grounds; thus, no voltage difference.
This bonding method also creates a star ground for your system.
You do what you want. Laugh at the odds. You may joke all you want to about this, but end up watching only your fire insurance adjuster smile as he informs you that he's not going to cover your fire damage because you intentionally violated code.
You can get a good picture while keeping it safe, too. Break the ground loop elsewhere.
