The intermittent noise that sounded like buzzing or clipping in one channel had nothing to do with the electrolytic caps, nor the DAC for that matter. Apparently there was a problem with the internal wiring of the headphone amplifier rather than any issue with the DAC whatsoever. Troubleshooting the issue to the source of the problem was a real challenge, but all's well that ends well. Better to take care of potential problems sooner than later. I also took care of another matter that I'd been putting off during the troubleshooting process, so it's all good.
