One thing I read somewhere that I have not tried is to double layer the drywall with two different thicknesses with ashphalt paper in between. This will deaden the walls considerably from bass boom. Using plaster to round/curve all corners and edges might bring forth some subtle improvements. I was in a room over the weekend which used extensive sonex (triangular wall foam) and the rooms sounded particularly good, very clear and dry. I think sonex (pyramid) looks really really cool too, like futuristic yet very dungeon like, but most people find it ugly.
