Re: Jon, please read.

Hi, Jon. I will notate on my "recipe" that this cable is unsuitable for unstable amps. I know that the Goertz cables also have this problem, due to the low inductance/high capacitance design. I also agree about not needing 2 sets of 27 paired cables when you bi-wire. I understand your basis for recommendations and your concern about this issue.

"Unfortunately, adding pairs to the CAT5 recipe does not only reduce DCR, it also will PROBABLY have around 500-600 pF of capacitance per foot of cable for the 27 pair version, depending on how tightly the weave was done."....... I guess we need to better quantify that- unfortunately, I do not have a capacitance meter.

"After about 15 feet of cable, the capacitance is starting to get into the region where some amps go unstable and are on the edge of oscillation."......... I don't know of any serious audiophile that would run 15 feet of speaker cables from their amps. I guess there's always a few, but this cable isn't supposed to be all things to all people. Again, I will note this in my construction details.

"I can recommend CC 89259 and a 16 pair CAT5 recipe, because I know that any properly functioning amp will not have problems with the cable connected, and that even funky speaker loads will not feed through the cables and wipe out the amp that way"............. Any properly DESIGNED and functioning amp should have no problem with the 27 pair Cat5 recipe either, Jon.

"All of my DIY recipes, and all of my posts are very carefully considered, both in technical content and potential repercussions for those wishing to implement them".........I do not doubt that, Jon. You are the "guru" of this and the AR board and your opinions are well regarded, however- you ARE making alot of THEORETICAL assessments on this cable but have yet to actually construct a pair and LISTEN & COMPARE. I have done the listening with several different "rigs" and maintain that if a person is SINGLE wiring the 27 pair is the way to go. If bi-wiring, than the 27 pair on the bottom end and as few as 9 pair on the top end sounds best- although it differed depending on the system I had for the number of pairs on the top end.

AS always, thanks for your comments and input.
