Jon is absolutely right (as he is MOST of the time ;-) about the inductance and ditching the PVC jacket, however, if you're going to do the project, go the extra yard (NOT mile), and follow the recipe as instructed. I have listened to all the different Cat5 configurations that are out there and even monkeyed around with a few of my own- in my many various system configurations this construction sounded the best.As I explained to Jon, there is little to no downside in having more gauge than you need, but it will be an absolute bummer to have to redo the project or have unsatisfactory results because you didn't have enough ga.
My personal experience says go with the 27 pairs (10 ga. equivalent).If you're going to be a bear........you might as well be a GRIZZLY, no? :-)
