Sorry for the delayed response- just got back from a trip. I have compared through listening tests (on numerous systems) and it seems that you can get away with longer IC's better than long runs of speaker cable. Why this is- I don't know for sure. If you can, try it both ways with inexpensive wire- the differences should still be audible and will probably be magnified even further when using higher quality cabling. Good luck.
