Thank you for your question. Having only a single layer of metal under a wooden faceplate would only provide a very moderate amount of resonance attenuation. Of course, it does depend on the dimensions of the wood versus the dimensions of the metal and how they are bonded together. If they are not intimately bonded then there would be even less resonance attenuation and the natural resonance of the wood would be a greater problem. In my experience, it requires at least three layers of properly selected materials and two bonding layers to start to get acceptable performance. Even more layers is desireable as long as they are also selected and bonded correctly.
