From what I've read, putting a wooden case around electronics produces a sonic improvement over a metal case. However, the type of wood used affects the result, as does the finish on the wood.As sam pointed out, you really do need some metal around the electronics, though. My belief is, if you simply wrap the wood around a metal case, you are working at a "cosmetic" level only; there is still metal adjacent to the power transformer and the PCB components.
To get the sonic benefit of wood yet create a barrier for RFI/EMI, you need to glue some very thin copper foil to the inside of each wooden piece - then solder earth wires to each piece of foil and earth them to the IEC earth tag. Yes, metal is still adjacent to the components but, as it's very thin compared to a metal case, its negative effect is proportionally much smaller.
