Being a 2-way system, the low pass section would obviously be responsible for the midrange quality of the speaker. It may not be a bad idea to experiment with better components here also. While it will not have as much of an effect as the hi pass filter, it is still part of the chain. You do not have to go crazy hear with a Solen or similar, bypassed with a good film cap of about 2.0uF should give you good results. Another thing to consider, depending on the type and slope of the crossover is the quality of the inductor. A good air core or even a foil unit could improve things considerably. Experimentation may be in order here as upgrading to more "expensive" internal parts does not always equate to sonic improvements. Sometimes it is the most unorhadox (spelling?) that yield the best results for any given component or system.
