Speaker Isolation

I live in a manufactured home with wooden floors that are carpeted. I have Paradigm Reference Studio 100/v.3 speakers. Previously, I used them with spikes through the carpet into the floor. As to be expected, the bass was rather mushy and imaging was degraded. I subsequently removed the spikes, placed MDF boards on top of the carpet and set the speakers on top of Vibrapods placed on the MDF. I experienced a noticeable improvement. I'm toying with the idea of placing slabs of marble on the carpet with the Vibrapods on top of those and placing the MDF on top of the Vibrapods, reattaching the spikes to the speakers and sitting them with spikes on top of the MDF. Any ideas or experiences on the effect this cheap tweak may have and should it further isolate the speakers from the flooring?
