As much as I enjoy DIY and am always looking for a bargain, especially one that meets or beats to commercial alternatives, I think that Fred may be morally correct here. A large, organized manufactured solution and distribution, even if not for profit, where there are questionable copyright issues, is risky. If done privately I wouldn't care, but it is now public. Hell, even if someone made these and sold them publicly through Audiogon I wouldn't care personally, since the seller would bear the brunt of any litigous problems, not the purchaser.A group purchase here though very well may:
- open the organizer and participants and manufacturer up to future litigation by the licensed commercial manufacturer, whether it is or is not legally justifiable or provable
- open the question of what comes next if more people like and want them
- open up the question of whether the asylum can be faulted for hosting a commercial thread, even if there is no explicit support by them for this projectAll of these, and a few more, make my participation in this project unlikely. I've found good results with my own spoons and balls as well as the purchase and use of Mi-Rollers, each being low cost solutions and not involving any moral or ethical or legal risk.
Just my thoughts,
Bob
