Steve:I did not mean to challenge your decisions, just to learn from them. I have two pieces of equipment, a Marchand electronic crossover (XM-9)and Marchand parametric equalizer (Bassis) which I am trying to upgrade. The power supply is the easiest way to upgrade both devices.
I am going to install the Super Regulator which is featured in the latest issue of Audio Electronics. If I keep the PS in each box, I will be limited to 1-2 regulators per device, one relatively small toroid and limited capacitance.
If I keep the regulators in the devices but place the toroids and capacitors into an external PS, I can use MUCH larger toroids and capacitors. If the regulators go into the box, I could go crazy and have a regulator for each op-amp in each device along with large toroids and tons of capacitance for each channel.
My inclination is to try to get one regulator for each channel in each device and fit one toroid in each device which will be limited by the amount of room available and add a little extra capacitance. This is what I'm thinking about and why I asked my questions.
