What Dave said is true but if what you meant is a power supply for each stage, thats differant. I feel that each active device in a unit wants to think it's the only thing on the supply. In that case more than one supply helps. In my power amps (Adcom535) for instance, I put in another supply for the input stages alone. That way they never know the output stage is even there. For preamps, I like to give each stage its own set of voltage regulators. I hope this helps some, bobwire
