I'm not sure if by "dual power supplies" you mean dual polarity such as +15V and -15V. Assuming this is what you mean, one of the primary reasons is to avoid coupling capacitors on the input and output. With only single polarity supplies you have no chance to direct couple since a DC offset is always present. You are also faced with using psuedo-grounds as reference points to keep the circuit "centered" between the power supply voltage and ground so that it can produce both positive and negative voltage excursions. The psuedo-ground must be somehow derived from the power supply voltage so is subject to noise.Dave
