Bypass Capacitors

209.156.76.23

In Jung and Marsh's original Picking Capacitors article (Audio/1980) it is suggested to use a .47 mfd and 5 mfd capacitors in parallel with the capacitor you which to bypass. In there Pooge-2 article (TAA/1981) they use polypropelene caps for bypassing. These articles are approaching twenty years in age. I am concerned better topologies have evolved since these articles were written.

Is polyproprelene still the cap of choice for this application or is metallized polypropelene just as good or better?

Can metallized be substituted for polypropelene and visa-versa?

Do you still need to bypass in pairs to optimize performance?

Do you need caps of the values specified or this because of the type used?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Dave
