I think a vacuvin might work well (a rubber plug used to conserve a bottle of wine when opened , it comes with a small vacuum pump, it won't be vacuum but you can get fairly low pressure) if it doesn't work you can always use it for its intended purpose!an other option in to fill the tube with Co2 or NO gass that way you will flush out the oxygen and keep the cable from oxidising
