JBL D/E/K Series Drivers and such

195.99.125.202

Hi there,

Well, let's talk about the JBL 110 Series Alnico Drivers first....

There where a number of guitar combos that used a pair of these. You might finda beaten up fender combo with dual 10" Driver occasionally. These are sought after but a possible source....

The 120 and 130 are much more sought after and hence rarer. I agree that either are great, but the 110 can make for a very compact standmounter which can be matched well to commercial subwoofers.

if you can deal with the larger enclosures and all by all means go 120 or even 130....

As for a wooden horn on 075 (or the matching Slot), this will be difficult. These Drivers actually have not all that much a "metallic" tone to my ears, but they need a high a X-Over. With 110 you can afford a very simple 1st order Highpass on the 075, some attenuation and about 9 - 10kHz as -3db point and it will work great.

I have worked BTW a few times as DJ in clubs that had exactly that combo (110 & 075's) as overhad systems on the Dancefloor. These things absolute rocked. So naturala vocals I could not believe it....

I also used to be very fond of the Alnico E130 for Vocal Reinfocement with smaller Combo's in modest size Clubs. We combined these (believe it or not) with the original Motorola "Lemonsquezer" Piezo Tweeters for a really inexpensive but great Vocal Box....Plenty of SPL, very natural tone and all that....

Anyway, enough reminicing....

BTW, I feel if one where to take the really cheap Eminence Beta 12LT and do a few mods one could have also a rather good thing going. If anyone is interested in this idea, do an Asylum Search for "Afterburner"....

I'm still waiting for my Eminence 15CX coaxials, but I have discovered that they look seriously good for an open Baffle System, so I'll try that first....

Later T
