i had exactly the same problem with the vol pot of my melos
preamp, even after replacing the stock one by a much better
alps poti solved the problem by:
1. a dedicated power line from my main circuit box
2. better power cords (i'm using Audio Agile power wire everywhere)
3. ferrites
