General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Bose 901's .... First Impressions ....

Interesting observations.

I am at a loss as to how female vocals sound "TERRIBLE, squeaky, shrill, and just plain bad" and yet this anomaly doesn't seem to intrude on other sources of material....the movie for example. I think one should take a look at the equalizer to see if it could be tweaked....at least that's where I would start.

Last time I heard the 901's was in 1978 and if memory serves, they sounded quite good but then I was pretty ignorant about all things audio back then. I heard them again in about 1984 but in a poorly setup system and they were wired out of phase to boot!! Tried to get the owner to wire them correctly but he was to have none of it.

To get an accurate assessment, one would need to remove all other speakers from the room and properly acoustically treat said room.
Then it sounds like some system tweaking might be in order, as U have pointed out, to bring them to their full potential.

Am curious to hear your final assessment after you have "tweaked" them to your satifaction.

Cheers,
