I just caught a doco on PSOTM, which has never been high on my list of faves although I know that its the bee's knees to many.
But it got me thinking aboutearly PF and that turned into thinking about the word "pychedelic" especially as applied to music.
And then I started considering the difference between British and American music from those years (apologies to anyone from other countries for the exclusion here)and I went scurrying for the booklet PSYCHEDELIA: 100 Mind-Expanding Masterpeices (and where to find them on CD)(punctuation mine) once given away with MOJO and written by Jon Savage.
Its a great source/aide memoire/laugh/inspiration.
I pulled out PF's soundtrack for Obscured By Clouds and that made me think of Sigur Ros and that made me think (see how much time I have on my hands at the moment) of what music today (year/decade) seems to fill that space.
I came up with The Primitive Radio Gods' "White Hot Peach" and The Earlies' "These are...".
Then I thought, Hey..light bulb goes off... right here on the asylum are enough like(half)minded folks to suggest other music that does that thing... you know, that THING...
So there you are... what does that for you?
